Above all, we require our volunteers to have affection for animals and concern for their welfare.

Each volunteer job has different age requirements. Some require a volunteer to be at least 18 years of age. However, we do have other volunteer jobs available to children as young as 12.

The basic requirements for working with animals in our shelter/veterinary hospital include the ability to:

• handle all animals humanely, properly and with compassion, including those that may be sick, injured or feral
  
  
• always treat people and animals with respect; to contribute to effective teamwork and promote interdepartmental cooperation
  
  
• assist in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals under our care at all times
  
  
• assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the shelter/hospital by participating in cleaning and housekeeping duties
  
  
• follow established procedures governing safe work practices including wearing protective clothing or equipment when necessary (will train and provide clothing/equipment)
  
  
• communicate in a professional, pleasant, respectful and courteous manner at all times
  
  
• show maturity and good judgment and maintain a professional personal appearance
